Ikkat Door is a Varanasi based saree business dedicated to authentic Indian textiles, traditional workmanship and timeless design.
We are keeping the weaving legacy of Banaras alive and bringing together skilled artisans, an awareness of textiles and a thoughtful curation to create sarees that are true to themselves, exquisite and appropriate to today’s women.
Ikkat Door was born out of a great love for Indian textiles and the ancient weaving traditions of Banaras.
Being situated in Varanasi, we are close to the people, talents and processes behind the sarees that we offer. Each piece is meticulously scrutinised before joining our Collection. We consider fabric, weave techniques, colour balance, zari work, motifs, pallu details, drape and finish.
To us, a saree is not merely a garment. It bears the knowledge of the artisan, the character of the weave and the cultural history of the location where it was made.
We want to make this craft more accessible, but not lose the authenticity that makes it so wonderful.
One of the main highlights of Ikkat Door is our relationship with skilled Banarasi Bunkars and karigars who have been involved in the traditional saree workmanship for more than three decades.
They have understanding of weaving procedures, the behaviour of silk and fabric, zari work, motifs, traditional designs, and finishing.
This practical experience lets us realise the difference between a saree that appears beautiful and one that is really skilfully crafted.
Having a connection with the traditional artists and the weaving ecosystem of Banaras enables us to offer collections that are intimately tied to the origin of the technique.
We choose sarees that are a true reflection of real textile skill, careful weaving, superb finishing and an eye for detail.
Our base in Banaras keeps us close to its weaving legacy, artisan communities and textile knowledge.
We don’t just add more goods, we curate our sarees based on fabric quality, colour, design, drape, craftsmanship and wearability.
We celebrate traditional Indian textile processes in our collections, but we express them in colours, styles and styling appropriate to today's wardrobes.
We believe that customers should know what they are getting. Clear product information, detailed images, customer support and an honest communication still make up a vital aspect of the Ikkat Door experience.
At Ikkat Door, women are at the heart of our brand — both as the women who wear our sarees and as a part of how our brand evolves.
We are dedicated to providing women with opportunities that matter across a range of sectors — from product style and packaging to customer support, content, design and brand communications.
We want to create an environment where women are respected for their creativity, skills, judgement and leadership.
For us, saree is not the only way to celebrate ladies. It also implies fostering confidence, independence, engagement and opportunity.
Shailja Arora launched Ikkat Door with a desire to create a saree brand that is deeply related to the textile tradition of Banaras, but also meets the demands of modern clients.
Her approach is based on quality, careful sourcing of products, client trust, respect for the craftspeople and a greater awareness of the workmanship that goes into each saree.
She leads Ikkat Door to grow as a Varanasi based company that merges traditional textile knowledge with modern day presentation and client experience.
Her mission is to guarantee that as Ikkat Door grows, it stays faithful to the people, craft and traditions that define the brand.
